Finishing 2014 with a Knee Issue

As you can see from all the pictures, we did hike on the Ice Age Trial through Devil's Lake State Park around Devil's Lake. We had great fun hiking with my best friend Scott and his wife Lynne. We actually saw folks on these stone stairs in flip-flops!

In October we camped at Kettle Moraine North Mauthe Lake in Campbellsport, WI. The Ice Age Trail goes through The Kettle Moraine State Forest where we camped. The morning of our hike, getting out of the passenger seat my left knee locked up, very painful. Straightening my knee out unlocked the knee and we hiked eight miles on the IAT.

My knee has continued to lock up and has become very painful at time and just a dull ache otherwise. The upshot is arthroscopic surgery to take plica (cartilage) out that is causing the problem. The out-patient surgery is scheduled for January 16, 2015. It is a simple procedure and I should be back to hiking next summer!

Michelle and I have decided to postpone our plans for the Georgia portion of the Appalachian Trail until 2016. We still are planning many hikes this coming summer, back to Superior Lake region and possibly the Ozark Trail in Missouri.

For those interested, I will update here about the knee issue after surgery.

Thanks for reading!
